Through insulation

Data acquired over the metal jacketing, without removing mineral wool or cladding.

No couplant

Electromagnetic coupling: no gel, no water, no surface preparation.

−30 °C to 500 °C

Assessment of hot lines in service, with no shutdown for cooling.

Manufacturer demonstration test

3 simulated pits, 45 mm of insulation, 3 indications on the map

Carbon-steel pipe with machined pits, covered by ~45 mm of insulation and metal jacketing. The probe scans over the jacketing; the thickness map shows the three metal-loss areas at their actual positions.

Bench test with simulated defects. Field performance depends on geometry, insulation and jacketing.

Field applications

Insulated tanks and vessels

Insulated tanks and vessels

CUI screening on jacketed shells, near critical areas such as bases and stiffening rings.

Process piping

Process piping

Bends, vertical runs and hot lines, from DN15 (½") depending on the probe.

Method limitations

  • PEC reports the average wall thickness over the probe footprint; it does not replace UT spot measurement.
  • Small isolated pits may fall below resolution; confirm indications with a complementary method.
  • Insulation thickness, jacketing type and geometry affect the signal; the application should be validated before purchase.
  • Code compliance depends on the customer's qualified procedure. Synvor supplies the equipment and technical support; we do not perform inspections.

Reference standards and codes

  • ISO 20669:2017 — pulsed eddy current testing of ferromagnetic metallic components.
  • API RP 583 — corrosion under insulation and fireproofing — management and screening.
  • ASME BPVC Section V, Article 8 — eddy current examination, including PEC in a mandatory appendix.
  • ISO 15549:2019 — general principles of eddy current testing.

Technical framework of the method. The instrument is not "ISO certified": test compliance depends on the customer's qualified procedure and certified personnel (ISO 9712).
